The game accommodates a minimum of 3 players and a maximum of 8.
The game has two dice that allow players to obtain values between 2 and 12 points.
The board is divided into four distinct regions, each with a reference to the cards:

All characters have strengths and weaknesses that must be observed at all times in the game, as some cards have different effects for each.

At the heart of Rivals of Discovery lies a dynamic deck of beautifully illustrated cards that drive every expedition decision. Each card represents opportunity, risk, or ambition.
Will you build the most prestigious catalog… or will you outmaneuver your rivals before they do the same to you?
A Stop Point in a board game is a designated space on the board where a player must pause their movement and resolve a specific effect before continuing.
When a player reaches a Stop Point, they may be required to draw a card, trigger an event, pay a cost, gain a reward, or interact with other players. It acts as a moment of decision or consequence within the flow of the game.
Stop Points create pacing, tension, and strategic planning — players must decide whether reaching (or avoiding) them fits their overall strategy.

You must draw a card from the deck, which can bring good or bad news. Luck or bad luck!

You have found a new species and, based on the region indicator and rarity level, you must draw the first corresponding card from the deck. For example: landing on a space with the value A3, you must look for the first card in the deck that has the same symbol.

This symbol indicates the end of a trail. Upon reaching it, you must stop, disregard all remaining points obtained on the dice, and the next move will only be made in the next round, with a new dice roll, starting the trail from the Dead End point.
